This Is Your Surgical-Free Answer To Permanent Double Eyelids

If eyes are the windows to our soul, our eyelids are the shutters. Well-shaped eyelids open up your peepers and add that big, bright spark to your gaze, while hooded eyelids covering the eyes show signs of ageing.

Eyelids are at their most beautiful when the upper eyelid fold is defined without visible excess of fat around the eye. On the other hand, skin laxity and sagging give rise to hooding of the upper eyelids. In other words, the shutters are hiding your windows!

Traditionally, the only effective way to open up the windows is by undergoing double eyelid surgery, also known as surgical blepharoplasty. Now with the discovery of Ko i-lift, there is a surgical-free way to correct upper eyelid hooding without going under the knife.

This treatment is called Ko i-Lift, or also known as Soft Blepharoplasty. Ko i-Lift is a minimally invasive procedure which is performed under topical anaesthesia.

“With several treatments the result from Ko i-Lift can rival that of conventional surgical blepharoplasty without the risk of altering one’s facial appearance,” Dr Edmond Lau Kian Hong, aesthetic doctor explains.

We ask Dr Edmond more about how Ko i-Lift works, what to expect, and most importantly, is it permanent.

How does Ko i-Lift work?

Ko i-Lift uses focused plasma energy, like thunder, to sublimate the upper layer of the skin and delivers thermal energy to stimulate the skin’s collagen and elastin formation. When performed over the upper eyelid area, Ko i-Lift causes firming and tightening of the upper eyelid skin, ultimately lifting the hooded eyelid.”

Is it safe?

“Ko i-Lift is safe and low-risk when performed by a trained doctor. Don’t worry about your vision, as the procedure only treats your upper eyelid skin, it will not affect your eyeballs in any way.”

What happens before, during and after the procedure?

“The whole procedure takes only 60 to 90 minutes.

Firstly, we will take a photo of both your eyes. The therapist will then clean your eyelid area to remove any cosmetic residual. Next, we will apply a layer of topical anaesthetic cream over your upper eyelids. The cream will take 30 to 45 minutes to take effect, during which you can rest and have a short nap.

The therapist will wipe off the numbing cream right before the procedure. The treatment is quick, typically only taking 10 to 15 minutes. After the treatment, we will apply recovering cream and sunblock over the treated area.

After the procedure, swelling and scabbing will occur over the treated area. This swelling will go away in 2 to 3 days while the scabs will heal in 5 to 7 days. You will also be given recovery cream to aid in the healing process.”

How many treatments do I need?

“The number of treatments needed depends on the severity of your skin laxity. In some cases, patients may need repeated treatments at intervals of 3 to 4 weeks for optimal lifting. Those with moderate to severe upper eyelid hooding are recommended to undergo 3 to 5 treatment sessions.”

Is it painful?

At this point, Dr Edmond told us that this was one of his most frequently asked question. He assured us not to be afraid. “You will experience a little bit of discomfort, but it is tolerable with some topical anaesthesia.”

How long will the lifting effect last?

“The lifting results from Ko i-Lift is permanent. However, it does not stop the normal ageing process, hence the eyelids may droop gradually over time. This is similar when compared to surgical blepharoplasty, but unlike surgery, Ko i-Lift can be repeated every year to maintain a firm and well-shaped double eyelid.”

With tolerable pain levels, minimal downtime, and most importantly, no knifes, Ko i-Lift definitely sounds like an option to consider. After all, aren’t you tired of fussing over your sagging eyelids and wishing for double eyelids?
