First and foremost you need to understand what is acne. Acne is a common chronic inflammatory disorder affecting the hair follicle and sebaceous gland (pilosebaceous unit ), in which there is increased sebum (oil ) production, blockage of hair follicle and inflammation which result in Propionibacterium acnes (P.acnes) overgrowth. It is more prevalent in adolescence but can sometimes affect kids and adult of all ages. There are several variants of acne ie vulgaris, nodulocystic, cosmetic, excoriee to name a few. Post acne scar can be distressing for most people. As uneven skin texture with an ice pick or box scar to name a few can be unpleasant aesthetically. Best Acne Treatment Malaysia
In Dr Ko skin clinic, our doctors will first access your skin type and severity of the acne. Based on this the doctor will decide which modality of treatment suits you best. I always advise on a combination of therapy due to the fact each treatment caters to a different approach in getting rid your acne fast and fuss-free. We tend to advocate medicine when it is necessary. Medication used cautiously and properly can help to control oil production and reduce inflammation faster for healthier skin. It also reduces the chances of post acne scarring greatly. (Best Acne Treatment Malaysia)
My patients often ask what kind of skincare is suitable for them. The right skincare should be water-based and non-comedogenic as I want to minimize my patients’ risks of having clogged skin. Products that contain salicylic acid is another thing that you should look for if you have acne prone skin. Salicylic acid is a lipophilic acid which is able to penetrate into the pilosebaceous unit, thus reducing blackheads and whiteheads.
Three stages of the acne formation in the human skin. The sebum in the clogged pore promotes the growth of a bacteria Propionibacterium Acnes. This leads to the redness and inflammation, that associated with pimples. For clinics and Schools
Lightweight moisturizer is usually applied to keep your skin well hydrated and supple. Of course, the most crucial part of your skincare is sunblock. Sunblock helps to protect the skin and to reduce post inflammatory hyperpigmentation type of scar. Dr KO ‘s Perfect Block Plus Skin Perfecting cream SPF 80 is my personal favorite to recommend. This is due to the fact it has broad-spectrum UVA and UVB coverage with Azelaic acid, another wonderful ingredient for acne prone and pigmented skin. Azelaic acid is a comedolytic agent and helps to kill P.acnes bacteria. It is also helps to reduce hyperpigmentation of the skin.
Patients are advised to come for facial at least every 4-6 weeks. Our facials consist of extraction, mesotherapy–acne injections and mild chemical peel followed by a cooling mask. Meso-acne injections are basically to help reduce the inflammation quick so there won’t be any post acne scarring. Chemical peel used during facial is salicylic acid. We also provide microdermabrasion using latest machines. Microdermabrasion helps to remove the uppermost layer of the epidermis which is stratum corneum. This improves the skin texture naturally and helps to even out skin tone for a refreshed looking skin.
Another useful tool that is used in combating acne is the Dual Yellow Light Laser. This laser has photodynamic therapy. It has the 578nm yellow output which can travel down the sebaceous gland to destroy the P.acnes bacteria as well as shrink the gland reducing the production of sebum. Thus acne can be effectively controlled with just 4 treatments one week apart.
Besides the yellow light laser, another common laser used in acne treatment is long pulse 1064nm Nd -Yag laser. This laser light penetrates deep into the skin to thermally and selectively destroy overactive sebaceous glands and reduce acne inflammation.
In addition to this 1064 Nd-Yag also stimulates collagen remodeling an important step in the long-term treatment of acne. So not only you manage to get rid of the pesky acne but also post laser you will notice a more radiant and youthful looking skin.
Last but not least I tend to advise my patients to be on low glycemic index food, thus avoiding sugary food if possible and to get adequate rest. Don’t be stressed or worried. We understand how debilitating acne could be to you. It might have meant being passed up at a job interview or not having the courage to talk to the girl you had a crush on. However don’t fret or be depressed about your acne, come on over and ask us what we can do for you.
